Saturday, January 30, 1999 PERRY - Funeral services for Mr. Sleyster will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. William Catholic Church in Perry. Father Ken Brockel will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in rural Center. Mr. Sleyster was born Nov. 12, 1909 in Ketesville to Julius and Julia Burns Sleyster. He was married to Mary Catherine Huffman on July 14, 1951, in Perry. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Thomas Yowell of Mount Dora, Fla., and Joe Yowell of Decatur, Ill.; two daughters, Patty Hoeddinghaus of Orlando, Fla., and Kathy Conquest of Burlington, Iowa; one sister, Leona (Sis) Sleyster of Perry; and a niece he helped raise, Mary Lee Dye of Perry; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred Sleyster, Chauncey Sleyster, Romey Sleyster, William B. (Bill) Sleyster and Frances (Leland) Sleyster; and one sister, Iris Hurt. Mr. Sleyster was the owner and operator of the Perry Rexall Drug Store for 35 years. He retired in 1982 and moved to Florida in 1987 to be near his family. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Perry and attended St. Patricks Catholic Church in Mount Dora. Mr. Sleyster had been a member of the Masonic Lodge, was active in Kiwanis Club and Community Betterment Committee, the Garden Club and St. William Catholic Church Marriage Encounter Group. He served on the Board of Aldermen for the City of Perry for several years. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Cemetery Association. Pallbearers will be Mr. Sleyster's family members. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Leake, Russell Itschner, Glenn Diffenderfer, R.V. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Perry Baptist Church. The Rev. John Grimmett and Mary Lee Sleyster Dye will officiate. Burial will be at Lick Creek Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Sleyster was born March 12, 1901, in Keytesville to Julius and Julia Burns Sleyster. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including a niece that she raised, Mary Lee Dye of Perry. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Chauncey Sleyster, Romey Sleyster, J.O. Sleyster, William Sleyster, Leland Sleyster and Fred Sleyster; and one sister, Iris Hurt. Ms. Sleyster moved to Perry as a young woman but retained her membership at the Keytesville Methodist Church. She worked as a clerk at the Perry Rexall Drug Store and a cook at the Perry Cafe for many years. She was a former member of the Perry Rebekah Lodge and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Perry V.F.W. Post 4088. Memorials may be made to the Westview Nursing Home Activity Department. Pallbearers will be Eddie Roth, Donnie Couch, Jimmy Gough, Phil Gilmore, Tom Coomes, Clyde Oligschlaeger, Fred Scott Reynolds and Bill Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Verna Levings, Veda Couch, Verda Roth, Bill and Francis Yancey, Dorothy Williams, Wilson Lane, Lorene Turner, Glenn Diffenderfer and John Hawkins.
